There are several different types of 18 wheeler accidents:
- Rear End Collisions or Rear End Crashes,
- Sideswipes,
- Head On Collisions
- Jackknife Accident
- Truck Rollover
- Cargo loss Accident
- The Blowout
- Carjacking
- Flipping Over
Most of the time there is negligence involved; this means that one party did not do something that they were supposed to or did something that was against the law. Negligence can be intentional or unintentional.
A jackknife accident occurs when the trailer swings out too far while the truck is making a turn or trying to maneuver in the road. The trailer may hit the side of the road or strike another vehicle.
Truck rollovers are also possible. This occurs when the trailer is too heavy for the truck to carry. In this case, the truck may tip over upon making a turn or hitting an object in the road. Rollovers can cause severe injuries as well as catastrophic damage to vehicles and property.
Cargo Loss Accidents—These accidents occur when a driver fails to properly secure their load and it falls off the back or side of their truck. For example, if a driver improperly straps down a load of lumber, they may lose control of the lumber while driving and slam into another vehicle in front of them, causing an 18 wheeler accident.
Tire Blowouts—A tire blowout is usually caused by driving failures such as underinflation or overloading, which causes the tire to explode. Depending on what type of roadway you are on, this can cause a serious accident with an 18 wheeler.
Carjackings—When a carjacker uses force to take control of an 18 wheeler, this is known as a carjacking accident. The carjacker then drives the truck away at high speeds and crashes into another vehicle or object, causing an 18 wheeler accident.
Flipping Over—An 18 wheeler accident that occurs when the 18 wheeler is traveling too fast for the road conditions and does not maintain control over the vehicle causing it to overturn or flip over is called flipping over accidents.
